No.80 Results of Customized Employment in the United States and Possibility of its Introduction to Japan(March 2007): Japanese Link; Collective analysis of materials and a research visit concerning with the demonstration program in the U.S. and a review panel discussion and literature researches about corresponding situation in Japan were conducted. The Customized Employment is a new model of employment supports, being developed by a research and development project with a nationwide network of researchers and practitioners under an initiative of the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) of the U.S. Department of Labor newly established in 2001, towards a comprehensive community supports for competitive employments of all job seekers with disabilities. The results of the demonstration program are significantly important not only for the U.S. but also for other countries including Japan, as they demonstrated a breakthrough vision, a strategy and implementation standards for policy and practices of employment of persons with disabilities.

No.79 Research on Ideal Way of Support for Employment Promotion for People with Higher Brain Dysfunction.- Current State of Support through Job Coach, Challenge to Cooperation with Medical Institution -(March 2007): Japanese Link; This report consists of six chapters all. Chapter 1 arranged a recent trend over "persons with higher brain dysfunction" support, and referred the purpose of this research. Chapter 2 clarified the actual conditions of "persons with higher brain dysfunction" using "National Institute of Vocational Rehabilitation ", and examined the influence that "model project for supporting persons with higher brain dysfunctions" had given to the vocational rehabilitation. Chapter 3 clarified the actual conditions of "persons with higher brain dysfunction" using "Local Vocational Centers for Persons with Disabilities" of the whole country in 2004 fiscal year, and understood the fact of the JC (job coach) support. Chapter 4 arranged concrete know how of the strategy of the JC support for "persons with higher brain dysfunction". Chapter 5 clarified the actual conditions of "persons with higher brain dysfunction" support in the medical rehabilitation institutions in the whole country, and arranged the current state and the problem of the cooperation of medical institutions and "Local Vocational Centers for Persons with Disabilities". Chapter 6 summarized the current state and the problem of the work support for "persons with higher brain dysfunction" based on the evidence that had been obtained in Chapter 2 through Chapter 5, and proposed the ideal way of the support in the future.

No.78 A Study on Current Situation and its Improvement of Various Workplaces of Persons with Disabilities (March 2007): Japanese Link; This study shows the current situation of various workplaces of persons with disabilities (except for general employment).The questionnaire investigation has gotten 1,034 effective answers from welfare workshops, sheltered workshops, and community workshops. The result of analysis of the investigation made a clear description of the details of various workplaces of persons with disabilities in the middle of the course of reorganization under the Law for Supporting Independence of Persons with Disabilities. This study also shows the examples of successful entrepreneur by persons with disabilities, and good examples for management of welfare institutions and private companies which made their own various workplaces for persons with disabilities.

No.77 Development of "Let's Try Data Entry" - Research on Development of the Tool to Assist Persons with Intellectual Disabilities to Use Computers-(March 2007): Japanese Link; Adapting environment research group has developed a computer software which is a useful tool for persons with intellectual disabilities in training the skill of data entry work and judging their aptitudes. The report describes the process of development of the tool and suggestive information to use it. There are two kinds of tasks in the tool. One is data entry task which requires users to input the contents on the cards into PC. The other is data correction task which requires users to correct the errors in the contents on PC screen according to the right data on the cards. One of characteristics of the tool is that three courses (Basic Training, Level up Training, and Exam) are prepared in order to make users to learn the skill step by step. Another characteristic of the tool is that it can easily adjust its setting such as operation time and the way to show the result of task operation according to user's preference and condition. The most remarkable finding in this research is that the prize winners of data entry of Abilympics in 2006, who are all intellectually disabled, revealed similar level of performance and higher level of accuracy in data entry work compared with skilled workers.

No.76-3 Study on the Strategies to Bridge the Supply-Demand Gap in the Employment of Persons with Disabilities(Part 3)(Aiming at Reducing the Gap between Disabled jobseekers and work supply)(March 2007): Japanese Link; This study investigates the present supply-demand gap in the employment of persons with disabilities, analyzes the factors affecting the gap and then examines the strategies in the related areas. The study finds out that there are factors such as 'disabilities' and 'skills' that are closely related to the gap. This report also gives various suggestions for resolving the gap that will be taken into account by administrative agencies, employers and job seekers with disabilities.

No.75 Comprehensive Study on Vocational Rehabilitation Techniques through Cooperation with Employers, Families etc. ( Vol.2 (Support by Cooperation with Relevant Organizations))(March 2007): Japanese Link; This report analyzes a result of questionnaire survey to vocational rehabilitation organizations about family support, and a result of hearing investigation to family self help group related to family support needs. Through Integrated Support Tools for Assessment and Training (Total Package) and practical use of a trial of Total Package Homework Version, this study examines the concrete plan and problems about an ideal method of cooperation with relevant organizations such as education, medical care, social welfare, etc. In addition, this report presents an introduction of a summary for Total Package Homework Version and suggestion about the utilization.

No.74 Comprehensive Study on Vocational Rehabilitation Techniques through Cooperation with Employers, Families etc. ( Vol.1 (Support to Employers))(March 2007): Japanese Link; This report carried out employers' needs investigation about employment of persons with disabilities, and tried to analyze successful cases that Local Vocational Centers for Persons with Disabilities carried out, including cases which private enterprises, stood in a view point of a management system model, performed desirable actions about employment for people with disabilities. Also, along a flow of employers support, this study examined an ideal method of desirable support for employers and examined suggestive cases for enterprises which related to progression and stability in a work setting.

No.73 Study on a Practical Method of Task Analysis in Vocational Rehabilitation (March 2006): Japanese Link; For expert to help persons with disability, the study reviewed the methods to use task analysis for assisting employers in vocational rehabilitation, as well as applying them to cases. For the application, the study group visited workplaces addressing employment and returning-to-work of disabled persons to show the contents of application and the methods of task analysis in each step of the "employer support service". Instances offered are two cases of job creation and job design in the "new employment for promoting employment of disabled persons"; and three cases of preparation of training curriculum and re-designing of the job to match the individual disability condition in the "returning-to-work of persons with higher brain dysfunction". By applying these to the cases, it became clear that the merits of task analysis for employers include the availability of task analysis results in a work process, which can be applied not only to disabled persons but also to all workers who engage in the work.

No.72 Study on the Current Status and Issues concerning the Vocational Rehabilitation and Work of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (March 2006): Japanese Link; Most conventional research for understanding the actual status of disabled persons in the fields of welfare and work focused attention on their main disability, so that the actual status and issues of persons with multiple disabilities were not necessary uncovered. On the other hand, 40 percent of pupils and students who belong to schools for the blind, the deaf, or the disabled are reported to have multiple disabilities, so that the work of these students after school is becoming an issue of labor policies. The conditions surrounding persons with multiple disabilities have improved, as we can see a movement toward forming a network by facilities and support groups that accept persons with multiple disabilities. Under these conditions, the study grasps and reviews the current status and issues of work for persons with multiple disabilities and their life supporting their work.

No.71 Study on the Issues of Career Guidance on Transition from School to Work for Young Persons with Developmental Disability (March 2006): Japanese Link; The study reviewed the support to obtain suitable employment for young persons with developmental disability including high function pervasive developments disorder in addition to learning disability and/or mild intellectual disability, with a focus on their "transition from school to work". This study reports reviews on the results of vocational evaluation, career choice, and future transition based on case study of 158 persons, for the purpose of clarifying what kind of findings are representing now on the "transition" of young people, what kinds of discussions are being held, what kinds of effects is having on the "transition" of young persons with developmental disability, and what should be discussed as the issues for the "transition".

No.70 Study on the Training Methods of persons with Mental Disabilities in their Vocational Training (March 2006): Japanese Link; The purpose of this report is to grasp the current status of vocational training for persons with mental disabilities as well as to try to clarify the effective training concepts and methods that match the trait of persons with mental disabilities.
The report comprises two parts: Part I examines the current status of vocational training by conducting a nationwide survey; and Part II discusses the most effective methods by setting up hypothetical training models, trying them on trainees at the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center for persons with disabilities, and comparing the results.

No.69 Trends and Issues of the Employment of Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in the Industry of Massage, Acupuncture and Moxibustion (March 2005): Japanese Link; The report clarifies the actual status and future issues of work in the field of three therapies (massage, acupuncture and moxibustion) that is known as a traditional occupation for blind and visually impaired persons, highlighting them both from the viewpoint of clinical practitioners and corporate health care workers (health keepers) in terms of vocational independence utilizing these therapies.

No.68 Characteristics and Issues of the Counseling in Vocational Rehabilitation (March 2005): Japanese Link; The report surveyed the concept of interviews and conversations to be offered by vocational counselor for disabled person, by taking examples from conversations between disabled persons, their family members, employers, and coordination with organizations, as well as analyzing these from a viewpoint of a counseling technique. As the result, some techniques concerning interviews and conversations became clear, which are beneficial to practitioners of work, education, welfare, healthcare, and other services related to the employment and work support for disabled persons.

No.67 Comprehensive Study on the Disabilities seen from an Occupational Viewpoint and the Effective Community-Based Support (March 2005): Japanese Link; This study offers a theoretical review of the new concept of disability based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), and empirical studies of the effect of environmental arrangement on the disability based on 3,850 cases or more cases collected from 1,611 nationwide workplaces employing persons with disabilities. Also, the actual status of work support of welfare institutions based on 4,376 nationwide responses and results of research a visits for trends of information support via the Internet offered by the federal governments of the United States and Germany were demonstrated. Based on these results, the study developed a prototype of an information tool on the Internet "General Database for Disability Employment Support (Universal Work Database UWDB)", which is equipped with functions to easily create "vocational check list", "environmental arrangement check list", and "individual work support plan".

No.66 Study on the Remote Education Materials for Visually-Impaired Persons - Report of the Study on the Vocational Independence Support for Visually-impaired Persons (Sub Theme II) Development of Work Support Techniques and Devices Utilizing New Technologies - (March 2005): Japanese Link; The study developed an easy-to-use remote education material to master the operation of personal computers for persons with severe visual impairment who have difficulty at operating a PC with a mouse. The first prototype was developed as learning material (text version) that is available as an educational correspondence course. The second prototype was developed as recorded learning material. Furthermore, based on the content of the second prototype, the material was converted to HTML. The third prototype was developed as teaching manual, mainly for teachers without visual impairment who are not familiarized with screen readers.

No.65 The Current Status of Job Coach Support for Persons with Mental Disabilities - The Result of Research Covering Support Services Offered by a Job Coach - (March 2005): Japanese Link; For the purpose of grasping the vocational problems experienced by mentally disabled persons who use the "support services offered by Job Coach" at Local Vocational Centers for Persons with Disabilities, the specific content of support offered by a job coach, the actual status of time-series changes in the support content, etc., the research summarizes the results of two surveys by questionnaires and interviews at the subject's home.

No.64 Comprehensive Study on the Vocational Rehabilitation Techniques Centered on Persons with Mental Disabilities (Practical Guide) (March 2004): Japanese Link; Over a five year term from 1999 to 2003, the "Integrated Support Tools for Assessment and Training (Total Package) to promote work adjustment" was developed as an evaluation and support technique that can be utilized at specific workshop and actual work places for supporting mentally disabled persons and persons with higher brain dysfunction to work (Research Report No.57). This report summarizes the cases reports of the "Integrated Support Tools for Assessment and Training (Total Package) to promote work adjustment".

No.63 Work Support for Persons with Higher Brain Dysfunction -The Usage of National Institute of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Current Status and Issues of their Cooperation with Medical Institutions - (March 2004): Japanese Link; The report clarified the usage of the National Institute of Vocational Rehabilitation by persons with brain injury in the last 10 years, as well as the usage of the local vocational centers for persons with disabilities by persons with higher brain dysfunction, which had been ambiguous until then. It also summarized the current status of and issues on the cooperation with medical institutions in offering work support to persons with higher brain dysfunction.

No.62 Study on the Employment Management and Career Formation of Persons with Disabilities (March 2004): Japanese Link; For the future development of vocational rehabilitation, the study examined the issues of "spontaneous career development" and "career formation" of persons with disabilities. In addition to collecting and analyzing data on the related-policies in the United States where these concepts were created, a nationwide survey was conducted in Japan on in-house career formation targeting employers and employees. The study also examined case reports of persons with severe visual impairment and reviewed studies on the relationship between career formation and QOL of persons with intellectual disabilities.

No.61 Study on the Work Support in Unexplored Employment Fields Focusing on the Service Industry (March 2004): Japanese Link; Recently, the number of jobs in the manufacturing industry (it had been the main industry for the employment of persons with disabilities) is declining due to various causes including structural changes of the economy, while some employment is becoming available in unexplored employment fields including the service industry (although it had been regarded as difficult for persons with disabilities ), therefore new research on the details including the actual status of work and work support for these unexplored employment fields are expected.
Based on these expectations, this study investigates the current status of these unexplored employment fields and other employment fields in which future growth can be expect, as well as reviewing the possibility of work in such fields and issues lying there, the necessary work support for creating further employment based on the results of follow-up investigation covering the graduates of high school for persons with disabilities, users of commuter's dormitory, users of mental health centers, among others; to understand the details of the actual status of work and work support by type of industry and disability. This report summarizes these factors.
This study focused on persons with intellectual disabilities and persons with psychiatric disabilities, however, necessary support for hearing-impaired persons who had been limited in their employment fields due to the disqualification clause are also summarized here, with a focus on the medical service field in which growth is expected.
